Idalia is a Puertominican (Puerto Rican and Dominican) writer, performance poet, health advocate, and kitchen table feminist. She describes her writing as a call to anyone who doesn’t realize that they can and should speak, to speak, and to those who are doing most of the speaking, to behold the power of silence.

In her own words, “Language (in my case Spanglish) es una criatura viva. It describes surroundings, chronicles experiences and names the fears and wants of the people that claim it. By writing, I claim myself and the people I belong to, who can’t write for themselves… the women and voices I carry on my back. I write my own struggle between feeling like a part of me has been stolen/lost in this country and going to back to my island as a gringa. I write for my sanity. I write for me.”

Idalia spent most of her childhood with her nose stuck in books. She is passionate about giving books written by queer women of color more visibility by publishing author interviews, book reviews, erotica, and poetry. As Associate Editor at QWOC Media Wire, Idalia is also interested in soliciting personal essays about the experiences of LGBTQ Latinas, transgender men of color, and/or gender non-conforming people.
